SPRING UPDATES
UPDATES & CHANGES
It's hard to believe it's already mid-April. AP students are working hard on portfolio preparations for submission to College Board. In order to better serve my students, I've made a few updates to my blog, as you've noticed by the design.
1) ACCESS TO RESOURCES: One of my goals this year was to organize resources for my AP students. In the past, I've given them a link to my google site to find documents, rubrics, and reference information. However, I thought it would be more convenient for everyone to link it to my blog. At right you'll notice a link to references that leads you directly to my google site.
2) REGISTER your e-mail to receive notifications when I post or make changes to my blog.
What do you think? Is there anything else that I could add to make this more beneficial to you? I appreciate your feedback.

Photographer Cindy Sherman
I've been fascinated by Cindy Sherman's photography since I first saw her work over a decade ago at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. Her views on identity are multilayered and speak volumes in her photographs. Check out this article to read more. An exhibit of three decades of her work opens February 26 at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. You can also read about the exhibit here.

Installation Art
My AP students are definitely starting to "color outside the lines" more these days. In the past two weeks we've had three outstanding installation and performance pieces created by art students n my AP class. I'm still learning how and where to post and link the videos so I can share them on my blog. In the meantime, I wanted to share a site of this installation artist. What do you think?

It isn't Thanksgiving without an argument!
Here's some Thanksgiving-related art for you from the Art Institute of Chicago.
I'm thankful for my students and for a job where I can do what I love every day! I hope you and your family have a blessed Thanksgiving.

Painterly Presents - Gifts for Artists
The holiday art supply catalog came in the mail today and I read it cover to cover. If Santa had no budget, what would you ask him to put in your stocking? Read on to get some ideas for your wishlist.

Field Trip Fun
What a privilege to visit a world-class museum so close to home! I think the students enjoyed themselves and gained insight into artworks from across time and place. One of the best parts of the day was that we were able to start our tour a half hour before the museum opened. It was certainly memorable to sit in front of masterworks like La Grande Jatte. After a quick lunch we spent some time viewing the Thorne miniature rooms, which were a crowd favorite. We spent the rest of our time in the contemporary wing enjoying works by artists such as Felix Gonzalez Torres.
Experiencing art in person is so much different from viewing it online or in a book. I think that viewing art in person often starts a lifelong relationship with that artwork. What is one of your favorite artworks to view in person?
